UAL Graduate Showcase:

Insight: What have been the challenges raised for design students and practitioners during the past academic year of 2020-2021? Have these experiences influenced the way we design and what we design? How do we see ourselves and others within these blended environments? How do digital platforms affect design research? Could these be the new paradigms of our industry?

Aim: To display all student projects to more people. To connect with more people despite the pandemic.

Strategy: We created a concept called "Blending Perspectives". Our exhibition is an epilogue to the early conversations that were initiated during the curation of the mid-term Work in Progress Show, which reflected on the difference between working in digital and physical spaces. Augmented Reality (AR) technologies were used, both in space and on paper, as a provocation to bridge the physical and digital, and as an opportunity to explore the emerging tools available in the palm of our hands.

We further played around with the concept of ‘Blending Perspectives’ where we animated the ‘cone’, to represent how our ways of seeing get affected when physical spaces mitigate with digital spaces.
